How to get here
For your general information, Pari is 25 km south of Siena. It is located on a hilltop a few kilometers from the main superstrada that connects Siena to Grosseto. Once you have selected your flight we will send you more specific information on how to reach Pari from the airport.
By Air:
Rome airport (Leonardo da Vinci, aka Fiumicino) connects to the world's main airports. The airport is connected by commuter trains to Roma Ostiense station. From there you can take a train north, stopping at Grosseto. You can also drive from Leonardo da Vinci airport on a superstrada that avoids Rome itself. (Note those wishing to spend a few days in Rome prior to the course or conference should take the train to Roma Termini.)
Pisa connects to internal Italian airports as well as to Amsterdam, London (Stansted and Gatwick) and Manchester. Pisa is about 2 hours away, by car, from Pari. The railway station is a short taxi ride from the airport and regular trains from Pisa stop at Grosseto on their way south to Rome and Naples.
Milan has some good-priced flights from North America. Shuttle flights (55 mins) connect to Florence. Luggage checked in North America can be picked up in Florence for customs inspection. Passengers arriving at Milan simply pass through transit for their Florence flights.
Florence is just over an hour and a half away by car from Pari and its airport connects to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Frankfurt, London (Gatwick), Paris and Vienna as well as internal flights to main Italian airports. To reach Pari from Florence see below.
By Bus or Rail
Grosseto is a stop on the main railway line that runs down the west coast of Italy and connects Genoa, Pisa, Rome and Naples. Grosseto is approximately 40 km from Pari. Buses from Grosseto stop at Pari, or 3 km away at the Petriolo Hotel, on their way to Siena and Florence. (Note: Generally arrangements will be made to pick up participants from Grosseto station.)
Siena is quite close to Pari, only 25 km away, but not so easily reached from other Italian cities. For example, traveling to Siena from Florence may require a change of train. However Siena can be reached in about one hour by bus from Florence. Buses connecting Siena to Grosseto stop at Pari, or 3 km away at Petriolo Hotel.
Florence (Firenze) is served by two bus lines, located at different termini near to Florence’s main railway station, Santa Maria Novella. One of the lines connects to Siena, and from Siena it is possible to take a bus that comes into Pari, or stops on the superstrada 3 km away at the Petriolo Hotel. The other line connects to Grosseto, by-passing Siena. with a stop on the superstrada 3 km away at the Petriolo Hotel. The last bus leaves Florence at 6pm. This does not enter Pari but also stops on the superstrada at the Petriolo Hotel. You will be collected by car from the bus stop. Individual instructions and timetables will be sent to those who wish to travel from Florence to Pari.
It is also possible to take a train from Florence to Paganico-Civitella (a small town 15 mins away from Pari). Depending upon the time of day you may have to change at Empoli. This station is a more a more convenient place to pick up visitors than Siena train station.
By Car :
If you are coming from Rome join the Autostrada heading north towards Civitavecchia. Continue along the Aurelia route until you reach the exit marked Siena. Take this exit and continue along SS 223 in the direction of Siena, passing the towns of Paganico on the right and Civitella on the left until you reach the exit for Casal di Pari and follow the signs to Pari (3km).
If you are coming from Florence(Firenze) on leaving the airport head south towards Rome. Take the Firenze-Certosa exit from the Bologna-Roma Autostrada. Follow the directions for Siena. As you approach Siena follow the signs for Grosseto and continue along the SS 223. Exit at the signs marked Pari and continue to follow the signs until you reach the village.
If you are traveling from Pisa-Livorno take the Autostrada south towards Rome. The Autostrada ends at Cecina where you join the Aurelia Superstrada again heading towards Rome. As you approach Grosseto follow signs for Siena that take you onto the SS 223. Continue along the SS 223, passing Paganico on the right and Civitella on the left, until you reach the exit for Casal di Pari and follow the signs to Pari (3km).
