Angelita Valencia Borbon
Angelita Valencia Borbón is a member of The Yaqui Nation which is in two countries: The USA and Mexico. The original homeland, the Sierra Bacatete, is in Sonora, Mexico. Yet in1978 federal recognition established tribal enrollment and a reservation in her hometown of Tucson, Arizona. Escaping the consequences of the impending colonial institutionalization and the division of her People created by a geographical border, she became a lifelong student in the ancient city Teotihuacan and with Sacred Scientists of Mexico Antiguo. In Cuernavaca, Valentina Borremans, a close associate of Ivan Illich and Paulo Freire, introduced her to the discipline of critical pedagogy. Angelita returned to the United States committed to becoming a community scholar on The Path With Heart Awakening Conciencia. Conciencia is a Spanish word meaning both consciousness and conscience. She is on the Board of Directors of the Indigenous Education Institute, whose mission is supporting Collaboration With Integrity between Western Scientists and Traditional Wisdom Holders.
